Dear Team,

We have one FULL week of class! This time of year we usually talk about goal setting. Here is a story I want to share.

In the book "The Alchemist" the protagonist is challenged by a king to walk around his palace while holding a spoon full of oil. He accepts the challenge and walks around for an hour to meet the kings challenge. When asked about what he saw on his walk he had no recollection. He was focused on accomplishing the task. So the king commands him to walk around again but this time look around his most spectacular palace. The garden, tapestries, architecture, and animals were the most unique out of the world sights. Upon his return, the protagonist, who had traveled the world, praised the king for having the most beautiful palace on earth. The king thanked him but also pointed out that his spoon no longer had any oil left.

The challenge is BALANCE. Work towards your goals while still noticing and appreciating the beauty we come across while taking on a challenge.

Dear BJJ Family,
As a coach, it's our pleasure to teach jiujitsu. However, if there are things we can "coach" with off the mat please don't hesitate to ask or reach out. If we can't help, we will help you find someone that can.

Here is our weekend schedule:
Friday, Dec 2: BJJ Rules Clinic - 7:15pm-9:30pm
(Know the rules, know jiujitsu) The rules of jiujitsu are based on the philosophy of self defense. We will be covering all the IBJJF rules to have the best competition strategy.
Saturday, Dec. 3: EDH Tourney& food drive- 8:30am Doors open
- 8:45 -10:00 kids (age 4-14)
- 10:30 -12:30 age 15+ Gi & NoGi
Medals & raffle prizes for all competitorsSpectator entry = canned food itemAll competitors welcome! We will be taking sign ups until the last minute, but the sooner you sign up the better we can stick to the schedule. We will have designated coaching so please no coaching from the side. (This helps us preserve an environment focused on learning)
Competition is an incredible learning moment. The mistakes we make in competition mean the most. The adversity we overcome in competition makes us stronger. The tears we shed helps us realize that winning doesn't come easy.
Sunday, Dec. 4: PB&J @ EDHBJJ- 1:00-2:00pm at the dojo
- 2:00 clean up & leave to hand out in sac (optional)
This is a great opportunity to talk about gratitude, poverty, and the value of community service with the family and friends.
