We hope you are enjoying the change in weather and winding down with a happier, healthier and stronger 2015. Our next email will follow with updates on our recent tournament performance including the US OPEN, NoGi Worlds, Submission Pro Tour, and SJJIF World Championships.

OPEN MAT:

This THURSDAY and FRIDAY we will be hosting an open mat from 9:30AM-12:30PM

Open mat is a fun time to jump on the mat and have fun!

- 9:30-10:30 will be kids friendly rolling with adult members respecting the kids fun.

- 10:30~ ALL ages are welcome but the kids must respect the adults rolling by staying out of their way. ALL ARE WELCOME!

TOURNAMENT & FOOD DRIVE:

Our last In-House Tournament of 2015! ALL ARE ENCOURAGED TO REGISTER

- BJJ RULES CLASS: December 5th 7:15pm~

(jiujitsu rules are based on the principles of effective self defense. Learn the rules, learn self defense)

Exciting news! ALLAN WON GOLD AT THE MASTER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS! Please take the time to congratulate him!

Eliot, Sean and Dave also competed in the tournament. Eliot finished with a Silver and Sean and Dave fought hard but were stopped shy of earning a medal. A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped prepare for the tournament!

Dear Team,

Congratulations on our recent promotions! We had a total of 28 students promoted to new belts, which was our largest promotion!!! Belt promotions only happen twice a year and there are a great time to reflect on our progress as a team. September being our 6th year anniversary, we're excited and thankful to be able to share 25+ hours of classes a week, and a few special community classes free to our community like yoga, wrestling, ladies jiujitsu, and open mat.

We had an exciting weekend of events these last few weeks! Some big news we have another WORLD CHAMPION in El Dorado Hills. Tanner and Nick drove down to compete in the Gracie World Submission Only Tournament and Tanner won GOLD in his division and BRONZE in the absolute! Make sure to congratulate him!!!

We're well into the second half of the year, school is starting, and things are busy! During this time of change let's remember to be patient and embrace the new until it becomes the familiar.

1. NoGi Tournament: Research has shown that kids who are challenged in the form of sports and mentored through the process are better able to develop leadership skills, problem solving skills, and overcome adversity. We hope to make a contribution to that with our in house tournament.

The tournament will also feature a Canned Food Drive as an "entry fee" for all spectators. Students can pick up tickets to "sell" to their peers and community businesses. Below are details on the tournament.

- WHEN: Saturday August 22nd
- KIDS: 8:30-10:00am
- ADULTS: 10:15-NOON
- COST: $35 until August 17th. $50 on or after 18th.

2. Team Gear

If you ordered Team Gear it's all ready! We have a few extra sizes and can re-order if we run out.

Belt Promotions are twice a year. Once in the spring and once in the fall in season with the time of change. Everyone is welcome to join us on a great day to celebrate the students hard work and dedication.

Dear Jiu Jitsu Team,

April is a time of change. Change is one of the most difficult for us...... It requires us to make DECISIONS and be accountable for those decisions. Make the decision to train and challenge yourself on the mat. That's what jiu-jitsu is all about!

We had two exciting weekends of tournaments in March. Here is a quick update!

IBJJF Pan American Championships

Both Sean and Eliot competed in the Pans this year, but were unable to return with a podium finish. It was a great reminder to the competitors that the road to success is full of many challenges and road blocks.

Dear Team,

This weekend EDH-BJJ hosted 12 teens with FIT Club, a non-profit group serving under served and at-risk girls, on rehabilitation or in the foster care system.

Your membership at EDH allowed us to host this valuable life impacting events for these teens. As the ladies trained, they were constantly reinforced the importance of owning their decisions, and making difficult decisions when under pressure or stressful situations. THANK YOU! We could not to this without your support as a membership! A special Thank you to Allicia, who volunteered to lead the instruction and mentorship with Eliot!

Last day for Registration is 3/1. Registration will go up from $35 to $50 after this date. Please register early to help us make medals and organize the competition brackets.

One unique part of our tournaments this year is that we are charging an entrance fee: The fee is one canned food item. Students can sell tickets in advance to collect canned foods or people can bring in an item on the day of the event. All collections will be donated to the El Dorado County Food Bank!
