BLACK BELT PROMOTION:
This Friday, September 1st Jerel will be receiving his black belt. EVERYONE from the KIDS CLASS / JUNIORS CLASS & ALL ADULTS are INVITED to celebrate the occasion!
OUTLINE of EVENT:
- 7:00pm Belt Promotion & Team Pictures
- 7:15-7:45pm Free Seminar by Jerel
- 7:45~ Open Mat & Rolling

Here is a little bio of Jerel and his jiujitsu journey:

Jerel first became interested in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after watching the Ultimate Fighting Championships. After finding out that Royce Gracie’s brother lived and taught in Hawaii, he signed up for classes and started his journey in January of 1996 under Relson Gracie.

Through the years, Jerel has been fortunate to train under Renato ‘Charuto’ Verissimo, Mark Laimon, John Lewis, Michael Jen, Terry and Davin Maxwell, and finally Eliot Kelly where he has found his home at El Dorado Hills BJJ.

Although it was BJJ’s application to ‘No-Holds-Barred’ fighting that initially attracted him to the art, Jerel has also found enjoyment in the sport aspect of Jiu-Jitsu. He has found a true passion for the entire process of competing in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments, from the preparation leading up to the competition, to the performance on tournament day, and finally the reflection on what worked well and what can be improved after it is over. Jerel’s most treasured competition memory was when he was able to participate in the US Open alongside his wife Aiza and three children Angelo, Ethan, and Ryan.

Tuesday

1/17/2017

Dear team,

I hope everyone is off to a great start in 2017. The new year is exciting because...... It just is!! But hopefully everyday of the year is full of excitement!

Today let's talk about TIME

The one thing we all have in common, 24 hours in a day. I've attached a schedule template and an example for your reference to make the best use of your time. I learned this in college from our wrestling coach, and I've used this template for 10+ years. The basic idea is:

1) ORGANIZE your day
2) FOLLOW through with the plan you organized (means nothing if you don't)
3) PLAN AHEAD when conflicts prevent your follow through

--------
Notes on the schedule template example:
USE COLOR for you to see how much time you spend doing stuff.
- Make sure it's REALISTIC: (Studying the Odyssey at 11pm on Friday is probably not a good idea).
COMMUNICATE with your spouse or coach what time is for what.
*** If you have a non traditional work schedule, it's important to update your schedule every time it changes.

1/2/2017

Dear Team,

Full Schedule starts Tuesday, January 3rd. Here are a few things to think about to help you find success on and off the mat in 2017. Please check the schedule online for details.

1. CONSISTENCY is CONFIDENCE
2-3 times of consistent training a week is enough to make progress. It takes discipline to get started but from that we gain freedom.

2. FRUSTRATION is PROGRESS
Thrive and embrace frustration. It means you're close. The keys to getting through the door of frustration is patience, deep thought, and knowing the process will yield a better you.

I hope these things contribute to your progress in 2017!
Happy year of the Rooster!
Eliot
