EDH BJJ TEAM! 

     2013 is coming to a close and we are knocking on 2014! Please have a fun and safe celebration to end the year and begin the next. We will begin our regular schedule with Kids class on January 1st at 6:00pm. If you would like to join us for open mat tomorrow on New Years eve from 9:00-10:00am we look forward to seeing you on the mat! An end of the year cleaning will take place from 10:00-11:00 as well. 

     The end of the year is a great time to reflect on your year, look back on your accomplishments, and dream BIG into the next year. Here are a few events that took place in EDH this year. Thank you for making these possible!

The events mentioned above could not have taken place without your leadership to better your community, take initiative, and make a difference. Congratulations on a very successful year! Fellow Martial Artists! 

November is here and we have lots of exciting events to wrap up 2013 and welcome 2014! Let's do our best to challenge ourselves through the remainder of the year and take on new challenges with the coming of the new year.

1) NoGi World Silver Medalist

 One of our instructors, Eliot took second at the NoGi World Championships in Long Beach last weekend. Eliot had two great matches against seasoned black belts to get into the finals. Eliot and his opponent James Puopolo put on a great show in the finals, but also marked a historical moment in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu history with an All-American finals bout at the World Championships. Congrats Eliot! 

2) JiuJitsu Expo 

  The 2nd annual World Jiu Jitsu Expo is going on this weekend in Long Beach. For those who missed out on the action today, there will be a live feed that features the super fights and black belt grand prix. Our instructor Eliot will be competing in the 16 man Grand Prix, so make sure to checkout the action online! The matches are scheduled to start at 10am on Sunday.

  Due to Eliot being out of town for the tournament and Ty catching croup, the tupperware party will be canceled. Jenni has made a online like for those (male and females) who would like to get some tupperware before the holidays!

Congratulations to all the competitors from the NAGA Sacramento Gi and NoGi Championships this weekend! Preparation was great going into the tournament this weekend and it was a wonderful opportunity to support jiu-jitsu and competition in the Sacramento area! A Big congratulations to Alicia, Sean, and Jordan on their performance! It was so nice to see some familiar faces in the stands supporting and cheering on the competitors as well! Thank you for making your way to Cal Expo to show your support!

We are back this week with Scheduled Training! 

Three very exciting events going on this week in El Dorado Hills Jiu-Jitsu to welcome everyone back to the mat! 

Class with Caren, BJJ Black Belt 

This Tuesday, August 20, EDH Jiu-Jitsu will be hosting Caren Camblin from Santa Cruz, CA. She holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is one of the instructors at Claudio Franca's academy.  She holds an MA in philosophy from Stanford University and is a lecturer at UCSC. Her jiu-jitsu classes offer practical drills, core-strength conditioning, and instruction tailored to students’ needs. 

ALL Ladies: Mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, aunts and cousins are encouraged to participate in this FEMALE ONLY event! YES! A class for women by women! Even if Jiu-Jitsu is "NOT MY THING" this will be a unique and special event to take part in. 

Social Hour 

Following our 1 hour adults class on Tuesday, we will have our end of the summer social hour. Invite your friends and family and enjoy some time off the mat with everyone. 9:00pm~

NoGi Tournament Clinic at EDH 

To finish of the summer of NoGi training, everyone is invited and recommended to join our NoGi Tournament Clinic this Saturday. Competitors must pre-register before Friday, August 23.

Schedule: 

     Kids 9:00am - 10:00am (followed by award ceremony and team picture) 

     Adults 10:30 - 11:30am (followed by award ceremony and team picture)

The summer is more than half way over! How are your with your goals for the summer and the year of 2013? Seminar this Saturday

Innovative Martial Arts in Rocklin, CA will be hosting a Jiu Jitsu seminar with the legendary Garth Taylor. Garth is a black belt under Claudio Franca and one of the first few American's to have medaled at the World Championships when they were still held in Brazil. Fundraiser Wrestling Camp Next Week

Greco Roman Wrestler, Quincy Clark, a 2000 Olympian will be hosting a fundraiser camp at our dojo on July 25 & 26. This will be a fundraiser for A Rocklin HS female wrestler to help fund her trip to go to the Olympic Training Center. More information coming soon! 

FEMALE BLACK BELT Class for Ladies Only

All Ladies will have the opportunity to work with a Female Black belt on August 20th. There will be a SPECIAL 90 minute class on this day for all the Ladies. Mark your calendar and invite your friends and family to this very unique and special class! There will be a 60 minute Gi class following the ladies only class for both males and females! 

Sunsplash Fun

EDH BJJ and West Coast Martial Arts will be selling tickets until this Friday July 19 for tickets to Sunsplash on July 31! These tickets are $30 each and includes admission, BBQ, Drinks, and Shaded Area. This would be a great outing for the family and members of EDH BJJ to have fun off the mat! 

Ladies Only Jiu Jitsu 

Ladies only Jiu Jitsu is growing to twice a week! We will be having class on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00-7:00pm. Sign ups during the months of July and August will be discounted. If you've been thinking about jiu jitsu this will be a great time to start!

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that one of our EDHBJJ coaches, Coach Jerel, had a heart attack on Friday evening. If you are not familiar with our staff, Coach Jerel, his wife Aiza, and their children Angelo, Ethan, and Ryan are on the mat every day. Coach Jerel frequently teaches our children's class, and the Tengan boys are regular competitors in our in-house tournaments. 

Jerel is recovering and is set to come home on Tuesday. We wanted to offer an opportunity to extend some support from our EDHBJJ family by providing daily dinners for the Tengan family for the next two weeks. If you are able to do this, I know it would be greatly appreciated, as it will allow their family to focus on Jerel's recovery and healing, rather than meal preparation. Summer Schedule:

Our summer schedule is now official. Small adjustments will be made to better fit our students needs during the first month of the new schedule. Please notice there are two classes that start on Monday and Wednesday at 7:00. A Beginner's class as well as a Fundamental's class. These will take place in different rooms at the same time. We will also be re-opeing our LADIES ONLY CLASS this summer! ALL LADIES 10& up are encouraged to try for FREE during the month of June. The class will focus on Self-Defense, Fitness, and Fundamental Competition Skills in the Gi. During the summer months, all Kids Jiu Jitsu Classes will be NoGi. Please have the appropriate NoGi Uniform for the students safety. EDHBJJ Uniforms are available for purchase from Coach Kevin. Please ask if you have any questions.

Dear EDH Martial Artists! 

Lots of exciting things happening this weekend with the D1 NCAA Wrestling Finals and IBJJF Pan Jiu Jitsu Championships! From EDH, Marshall and Garrett participated in the tournament. Marshall was called for a confusing and somewhat controversial call that ended with him being disqualified. Garrett made a strong showing to finish with a bronze. Congratulations to the entire team for helping these guys get prepared for the biggest tournament in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! Tournaments are a reminder that individual success is the reflection of hard work, focus, and discipline from the individual but also a result of the support of each and every person elevating the intensity and a willingness to serve for the betterment of the team! CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE!

1) Tournaments

Tournaments are a great way to add a little more incentive to your training! Just like runners might enter a race on the weekend, add a couple tournaments to your schedule every few months and see you jiu jitsu improve! We have FOUR in-house tournaments for you to participate in!! Here are some tournaments in the next month: 

April 1: EDH Kids Tournament 

April 2: EDH Adults Tournament (Social Hour following the tournament at RELISH. ALL friends & family are welcome!)

April 20/21: American Cup, San Jose 

April 27: IBJJF Las Vegas Open

Please register before Friday March 29 for the EDH In House Tournament! 

2) Saturday Open Mat

Every Saturday Jordan will be leading open mat from 11:00~. However, there will be some Saturdays with no open mat sessions because of tournaments or family functions. Please confirm on our facebook page or with Jordan on a weekly basis. "like" our facebook page to receive jiu jitsu updates, motivational quotes, food for thought, and more! 

3) No AM class 3/25

There will be no 7:00 AM class on Monday March, 25. There will be regular schedule classes in the evening of Monday March 25.

Good Morning Grapplers! 

We have an amazing event tonight with Professor Chad Robichaux on the mat! He will be going over some really neat tricks for our students to learn and sharing with us his story as a wounded veteran. We are asking for a recommended donation of $35 to help is Mighty Oaks Warrior Training Foundation help rehabilitate those with both physical and mental combat trauma. I highly recommend bringing a friend or family to this event. It will be an event to remember! I've attached a link to a quick interview we did together last night. Chad will also have his recently published best seller "Redeployed" available for $20.

Dear GRAPPLERS!

Judo Class is canceled tonight and will be held only on TUESDAY from 6:00-7:30. Starting next week, Gi Jiu-Jitsu will be from 7:00 - 8:30. All Jiu-jitsu players interested in competition, both kids and adults are highly encouraged to participate in the JUDO or WRESTLING class on a weekly basis. Please talk with Eliot or Jenni about upgrading your program to include JUDO, WRESTLING, or both.

Hello EDH Grapplers! 

Here are the updates from the recent tournament action and some events to look forward to in MARCH! 

GREAT JOB!!

- Congratulations to all the competitors and team for the excellent performance at the IBJJF San Francisco International Open. Here are the results from EDH BJJ:

Garrett - Gold (split in finals)

*Team YEMASO finished in 2nd place as a team! A first for any Sacramento area jiujitsu team! HISTORY IN THE MAKING!!! 

- Congratulations to KEVIN for his performance at the ALL STAR TOURNAMENT he finished with a SILVER in his division!

- Congratulations to RICH & JORDAN for their performance at the UGF CALIFORNIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Tournaments are a great opportunity tot challenge yourself and test the skills you have been training to acquire in practice. These results are a reflection of the TEAM training to challenge and make each other become stronger and better. What a great opportunity to learn and become a complete martial artist! Thank you to everyone who supported these competitors in anticipation of the event and at the event as well! 

SELF-DEFENSE & BJJ SEMINAR @ ORHS:

Tuesday: 10:40am-2:50pm

Wednesday: 7:25am-2:50pm 

Thursday: 8:30am-10:20am

If anyone is interested in making a difference in their community, this will be a great opportunity to work along Eliot in his Self-Defense oriented seminar at ORHS. Please RSVP if you are interested in attending. Eliot will need to check you in at the office before stepping onto campus. 

SEMINAR MARCH 6th: WEDNESDAY

Chad Robichaux from Gracie Barra Westcliffe will be teaching a special seminar in EDH. This is a great opportunity to learn some tricks from a different instructor and introduce a friend to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The event is FREE, but we will be taking DONATIONS will all proceeds going to WOUNDED VETERANS. The recommended donation amount is $35. There will be no regular classes on this day. 

Kids seminar from 6:00-7:00PM

Adults seminar from 7:00- 8:30PM

IN HOUSE TOURNAMENT: MARCH 25/26

Mark your calendars for our first in house tournament of the year! This will be a great event to practice and apply the techniques we have been training hard to learn in a real life tournament setting. There will be medals and special prizes for all competitors in both KIDS & ADULTS. All with three months or more of experience are welcome! FAMILY & FRIENDS ARE ENCOURAGED TO COME WATCH!
